CoMA and James Weeks are putting together a book of partsongs to be launched at the CoMA Summer School in August this year. I’m happy to have been invited to write something for the book, not least because it re-establishes some kind of a connection with CoMA several years after my last involvement as a member of the Yorkshire contingent. At the moment it’s looking like the piece will be part of my ongoing set of Jandl Songs and feature a rather oblique connection to Wagner…
A new trio of the extraordinary musicians Axel Dörner (trumpet), Roger Turner (drums), and Dominic Lash (double bass) come to Sheffield towards the end of the month courtesy of Simon Reynell of Another Timbre as part of a UK tour.
I’ll be supporting them as part of another trio with Axel Dörner and Jon Marshall.
Also playing are Murray Royston-Ward & Angela Rosenfeld. It promises to be an intriguing mix of improvisatory styles, high virtuosity, low humour, found sounds and baroque music.
