notes, notation and musical paper

…is the title of a workshop thing I’m giving on Saturday 19th October as part of “Opening up the Book” a collaboration between Bank Street Arts and the School of English at Sheffield University on the theme of artist book collections.

We’ll be exploring many kinds of scores and notations and trying out various ideas from my collection of paper-based objects, including, perhaps, things by Christian Wolff, Anthony Braxton, Fluxus and beyond.

Everything from simple instruction pieces to mysterious markings and impossible conundrums.

It’s open to all and no ability to read conventional music is required or previous musical experience just open ears & eyes.

Bring instruments/things to make sounds with if you have them.

It’s on from 1pm till about 6pm, and it’s free but  due to space restrictions, places should be booked here.
