Wolff book

August sees the release of a new book Changing the System: The Music of Christian Wolff published by Ashgate which I’ve edited with Philip Thomas.

This is the first book length study of Wolff’s music and features chapters by some of the leading thinkers and doers in the field of experimental music from Amy Beal, Christopher Fox, Clemens Gresser, Michael Hicks, Michael Parsons, David Ryan and James Saunders as well as chapters by Philip and myself.

It ranges across Christian’s music from his early days with Cage and Feldman through to his music of the last few years and considers the music from various angles including matters of performance, composition and the political and social ideas and circumstances surrounding his work. The front cover of the book also features the first public display of Wolff’s visual art, an interest which he has been developing in recent years.
